Fall/Winter Workshops

This workshop meets the requirements for licensure renewal. We will record the program so it can be watched after the above date on your own time. Participants will be required to complete a test prior to receiving their certificate.

Objectives:

• To teach what is and what is not sexual harassment.

• To teach how to report sexual harassment.

• To teach responsibilities of company leaders in handling reports and developing company policies.

This basic workshop will give the attendees an overview of important ways to work with domestic violence victims. It will be recorded so it can be viewed at other times.  It will include the importance of safety planning, what makes domestic violence counseling different from mental health counseling, power & control wheels, cycle of violence and other aspects of working with domestic violence victims.

Objectives:

• To provide attendees with methods of working with domestic violence victims.

• To provide an overview of issues related to working with domestic violence survivors.

This workshop will provide interventions and techniques to use when working with a variety of clients. It will be fast paced so that you will leave with techniques that you can immediately use with your clients in a variety of settings/client issues. As time allows, we will teach you how to develop your own techniques to meet your client’s needs.

• To teach specific interventions and techniques when working with a variety of clients.

• To teach methods to develop your own customized interventions to meet the needs of your clients.

This workshop will look at the reasons counselors experience burnout and find themselves just going through the motion of providing treatment. The Pandemic overwhelmed many counselors as they struggled to provide services to their clients and dealt with their own fears/anxiety about the pandemic.

Objectives:

• To teach the signs when an attendee is close to burnout.

• To teach coping skills to prevent burnout.

We will focus on the ways our society keeps people in poverty. We will look at how different classes view and handle specific situations. We will explore if the traditional ways of getting out of poverty still work in today’s society.

Objectives:

• To teach attendees the issues that make it tough for someone to get out of poverty.

• To teach ways that each class looks differently at similar issues.

The workshop will focus on when to report, who to report the incident to and what to report. We will go through DCFS terms and their meaning. At the end of the workshop, attendees should understand how and the importance of reporting child abuse. This workshop meets the State requirement for this type of training prior to Counselors renewing their license.

Objectives:

• To teach how to be an effective mandated reporter.

• To develop an understanding of the role of DCFS when reporting child abuse.

This workshop will provide an overview of how domestic violence is viewed by birth to 5 children and the effects domestic violence can have on the long term mental health of this population.

Objectives:

• Teach how domestic violence affects the long term social/emotional development of birth to five population.

• Provide attendees with insight into how the very young view domestic violence.
